CF&TV Newsletter: news from the Catalan film & TV industry
june
Supporting the Catalan audiovisual industry worldwide

For us, the Cannes Marché du Film has become a virtual meeting marathon, and with a very positive outcome! We've had interviews with the leading festival programmers, from mainstream to art house, from Diana Sanchez in Toronto to Marco Müller of the Venice Film Fest. And there is no doubt that the fine harvest of Catalan films of 2010 is our best calling card. These were intense days, where we saw the fantastic images of Animals, thanks to Vicente Canales and Film Factory; where we found out more about Oberon's upcoming Dictado; and where we had time to lend a hand to countless producers, from Isona Passola, who now has a project on the horizon, to Carles Benpar and his El genere femení which will soon be premiering. We are also looking forward to retrospectives like the one on Ventura Pons at Montpellier and most probably one on Isaki Lacuesta, whose Double Steps spurred loads of enquiries. And everywhere we went, people asked about Catalonia's upcoming productions. What's more, we even got to see the magnificent teaser of Cine de Garaje's Crónica de otro confín / Chronicle Beyond the Border.
Among the countless institutional meetings that filled the pages of our agenda, we are particularly pleased with our meeting with Manuel Grangel, the director of Cinema do Brasil, as we walked away with a possible agreement proposal.

And now that we're back in the office, we've got still more festivals coming to see us, including Rome's Cinespagna, Mar de Plata and the London Spanish Film Festival. We're celebrating the 15th anniversary of Parallel 40; we're meeting with the Animats association to discuss the strategies for 2012, while congratulating them on the three Catalan titles taking part in Annecy; and we'll be sitting down with Igualada's Zoom Festival, which continues to work with Germany as a focus. In the meanwhile, we are preparing the activities for the next Gamelab; and we've got a meeting with Televisió de Catalunya, among other things, to explain the new tools and applications that we are developing for iphone and ipad.

And before we sign off, congratulations to everyone for the three Catalan projects selected for the Small is Beautiful section at Différent! in Paris (more information below), where we will once again be working with the Ramon Llull Institute - yet another institution that we just recently met with. And for now, we'd better hit the "save as" button: we're off to see the representatives of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, to discuss the upcoming plan for 2012 -we'll tell you all about that in just a few weeks, in the next issue of our newsletter.
