And the Oscar goes to ...

Exactly six years ago, a Catalan production was walking the red carpet of the one of the world's most prominent film awards: Hollywood's Oscars. It was a great moment for the documentary Balseros / Cuban Rafters, and this coming March will be no different for Claudia Llosa's feature film La teta asustada / The Milk of Sorrow, produced by Oberon Cinematográfica (along with Wanda Visión and Vela Producciones). Representing Peru in these awards, this international coproduction most importantly embodies the steadfast commitment of its producers, which discovered Llosa's talent with her Madeinusa. Though this may well be the leading headline of this newsletter, you are also sure to find loads of other good news, including the great success of Buried at Sundance, the tribute to the Catalan documentary at Rotterdam, and particularly the participation of three films in the Berlinale 2010.
