The final line-up of the 60th Berlin International Film Festival will be featuring three Catalan productions. Running between 11 and 21 February, the event has scheduled the world premiere of the documentary Cuchillo de Palo / 108, by Renate Costa (Estudi Playtime) in the Panorama Dokumente section, while Luis Sampieri's feature film Fin / End (Cierzo Films) will be taking part in the parallel section Forum.

The festival will also be hosting a special gala presentation for the big production Henri IV, co-produced by the Catalan Film Institute, along with ARD - WDR, BR, SWR, MDR, NDR, Degeto Film, France 2 Cinema, GTV - GéTéVé, ORF TV - Austrian Broadcasting Corp., Wega Film and Ziegler Film.

New coproduction meetings

Moreover, on 13 February, Catalan Films & TV will be kicking off a new model for coproduction meetings, bringing together three or four countries at the same time. The first of these events will be held at the NH Mitte Hotel and anticipates a turnout of 41 different companies from Catalonia, Brazil, Italy and Madrid, covering all the diverse areas of the sector (producers, distribution companies and audiovisual services).

This first initiative was designed in cooperation with Cinecittà Luce, the Roma Lazio Film Commission, Cinema do Brasil and Promomadrid. The subsequent coproduction meetings are envisaged to coincide with the Annecy International Animation Film Festival and Market (June) and the Sunny Side of the Doc (June).

9 productions at the film market

Alongside the festival, the Berlinale is also venue of the first major film market of the year, the European Film Market (EFM). This event will be accommodating nine more Catalan titles, including the 3D screening of Jordi Llompart's Viatge màgic a Àfrica / Magic Journey to Africa (Órbita Max) and a preview of Los ojos de Julia / Julia's Eyes, a Rodar y Rodar production with the support of Guillermo del Toro, following the same pattern as El Orfanato / The Orphanage. What's more, 38 Catalan companies will be taking part in the market under the Catalan Films & TV umbrella stand.
