8 Catalan films nominated at the 26th celebration of the Goya Awards

On 14 February, eight films with Catalan participation will be competing in the Spanish Film Academy's Goya Awards. The nominated works include Mar Coll's first film, Tres dies amb la família /Three Days with the Family (produced by Escándalo Films and Televisió de Catalunya), with nominations for Mar Coll and Nausicaa Bonnin for Best New Director and Best New Actress, respectively. Similarly, El cónsul de Sodoma, directed by Sígfrid Moleón and produced by Steinweg Emotion Pictures, Infoco and Televisió de Catalunya, will be opting for another five awards (Adapted Screenplay, Leading Actor, Supporting Actress, Wardrobe, and Makeup/ Hairstyling).

Yet the spotlight will also shine on several other Catalan productions, with one nomination each. One such film is Map of the Sounds of Tokyo, directed by Isabel Coixet and produced by Mediapro, Versatil Cinema and Televisió de Catalunya, which has earned Aitor Berenguer, Marc Ots and Fabiola Ordoyo the nomination for the Best Sound. Also, [REC] 2, directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, and produced by Castelao Productions, will be competing for Best Special Effects, thanks to the work of Salvador Santana and Àlex Villagrasa.
The other nominated productions with Catalan participation include Cher Ami, by Miquel Pujol (Action) and Pérez 2, el ratoncito de tus sueños / The Hairy Tooth Fairy 2, by Andrés Schaer (Castelao Productions), both of which will be competing for the award for Best Animation Film. Another film, Garbo, el espía. El hombre que salvó al mundo / Garbo, the Man Who Saved the World, by Edmon Roch (Ikiru Films, Centuria Films and Colosé Producciones) has been nominated for Best Documentary Film; and similarly, La teta asustada / The Milk of Sorrow, by Clàudia Llosa, produced by Oberon Cinematogràfica, Wanda Visión and Vela Producciones, is up for Best Latin American Film.

Finally, director Benet Román has positioned his film, Luchadoras, which explores the conflicts of women today in Mexico, as a candidate in the Best Documentary Short category.
