20 professionals from the Catalan audiovisual sector recently took part in the Audiovisual Bridge organized by Catalan Films & TV in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and with the cooperation of the HK Trade Development Council.
Between 17th and 23rd March, the ancient British colony accommodated the Catalan film and television professionals who made the trip to introduce themselves to the Asian giant. As one of the leading powers in cinema and audiovisual production, with its own legal system open to foreign capital and given the fact that it receives 14 million Chinese people each year who come in search of new products, Hong Kong is undoubtedly the ideal showcase for the rest of the continent.
By and large, the Asian audiovisual production system can be defined by decreased spending, less shooting time and a lack of public resources. Thus, one of the main goals of this connection was to further develop this system to create a network of contacts and adapt it to some of the European schools of cinema.
To acquaint the Catalan professionals with the Chinese industry, visits were made to production studios, distribution companies and digital media centres, and a number of seminars were given as a part of the Filmart trade show, on funding, location, talent management and digital entertainment. As to the Japanese industry, a co-production meeting was held with Unijapan, where some 10 companies from both East and West presented their projects and offered the details of their respective production systems.
In addition to these activities, the Catalan producers and distributors had the opportunity to meet personally with Asian professionals to share both their finished products (films, television series, animation, mobile telephone and internet products) and those currently underway, with the ultimate aim of finding partners and co-producers that will ensure the distribution and promotion of Catalan works in the Asian market.
