In Cannes, today, Sunday, 20 May, the Catalan Institute of Cultural Industries (ICIC) signed a cooperative agreement with the institutions Medien -und Filmgesellschaft Baden Württemberg- of Germany and Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, SA of France. Promoted by Catalan Films & TV and designed to offer incentives for co-productions, the agreement was signed this morning by the Director of the ICIC, Antoni Lladó, the Executive Director of Medien Gabriele Röthemeyer and the President of Rhône-Alpes Cinéma, Margaret Menegoz.
The agreement also aims to facilitate the promotion and circulation of audiovisual products, to increase film shoots and the exchange of talent among the three regions, and to implement joint action initiatives in the international markets.
Both Baden Württemberg and Rhône-Alpes are two of Europe's most prominent audiovisual production centres with cinema and television policies that are very similar to those of Catalonia. In fact, the desire to work more closely in the film industry has its roots in the historical relations among the three regions. Along with Lombardy, Catalonia, Baden Württemberg and Rhône-Alpes are members of the association known as the "Four Motors of Europe", which works to increase the economic, cultural and social potential of these regions.
The signing of this agreement will give rise to a plan of action envisaged to include different meetings as a part of international co-production markets and forums, in keeping with the framework that Catalan Films & TV has been building in recent years.
