Madrid de Cine 2010

Several Catalan productions took part in the Madrid de Cine market, where our region walked off with a solid balance of international sales. One hundred seventeen buyers, 74% of which were European, flocked to the market in the Spanish capital. Thus far, Catalan Films has managed to gather the following information on the participating productions:

Following the huge success of 3 Dies amb la Família / 3 Days with the Family among critics and at festivals, IMAGINA has taken charge of the film's international sales. This was one of the most warmly received films by critics following its screenings.

The Happets, directed by Àlex Coll and produced by Anera Films, Abano Produccions and Continental Producciones, offered a 3D screening of the last 17 minutes of the film. 6 SALES, its international sales agent, closed deals with South Korea, Poland, Israel and the former Yugoslavia. Moreover, ALTA FILMS bought the rights for the film's Spanish distribution.

There was also a 3D screening of Jordi Llompart's production, Viatge Màgic a l'Àfrica / Magical Journey to Africa, which is sold internationally by FILMAX. The result? The film has already closed deals with the following regions: China, the former Yugoslavia, Mexico and Central America, Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, the Middle East, Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria, Thailand, Romania, Indonesia and Brazil.

Agnosia, by Eugenio Mira and produced by Roxbury Pictures, Madrugada Films and Telecinco Cinema, the sales of which are also handled by FILMAX INTERNATIONAL, picked up a few more regions. With deals already closed with Scandinavia and Korea at the Cannes market, Filmax anticipates the closure of further sales with the United States, Italy, Japan and Benelux.

AURUM has purchased the rights for the Spanish distribution of El Diari de Carlota / The Diary of Carlota, by José Manuel Carrasco, produced by Messidor Films, Castafiore Films, Milou Films and Tornasol Films.

Yet without a doubt, the star film at Madrid de Cine was the Catalan production Los Ojos de Julia / Julia's Eyes, directed by Guillem Morales and produced by Rodar y Rodar, Televisió de Catalunya, Antena 3 Films, Focus Features and MesFilms. DEAPLANETA has already closed sales deals with nearly half of the world's regions since it began to show the teaser of the film at the last Cannes market. Among others, those regions include Germany (STUDIO CANAL), China (DARK LIGHT MEDIA), Romania (INDEPENDENTA FILM), Turkey (DUKA FILM) and France, Spain and Latin America (UIP).
