The Catalan Audiovisual Industry Hits Rome

The CinemaSpagna Festival will be the backdrop for Catalonia's second coproduction meeting with Italy

Festivals | Meeting
Catalan Films & TV will be heading to Rome for the upcoming CinemaSpagna Festival, on 28 and 29 April. Among other activities, the festival agenda will include a Catalan Focus event with a coproduction meeting. What's more, five Catalan films have been selected to take part in the festival, and Italian distributors will be offered screenings of Catalan productions that are currently seeking distribution.

The Catalonia-Italy coproduction meeting, which will be focusing on the feature film, is the product of the combined efforts of Catalan Films & TV, the CinemaSpagna Festival, Cinecittà Luce, the Roma Lazio Film Commission and API (Association of Italian Producers). The following Catalan companies have already confirmed their attendance: Messidor, Notro Productions, Nava Entertainment, Just films, Sagrera TV, Televisió de Catalunya and the Barcelona-Catalunya Film Commission.

This coproduction meeting with the Italian audiovisual industry is the second of four meetings scheduled for 2010, known as "Incontri del IV tipo" (roughly, "encounters of the fourth kind"). The first of these meetings, held in Berlin, included the additional participation of Brazil and Madrid. The third meeting is envisaged to be held during the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, and the fourth will be held during the Rome International Film Festival. Also worthy of note is the upcoming presentation of the new Italian tax credits, as well as the exclusive presentation of a hypothetical case study of a coproduction, bearing in mind the new audiovisual laws.

As regards the line-up for the Festival, CinemaSpagna has already confirmed its selection of five Catalan productions. Thus, as of now, the slates will be including Cesc Gay's V.O.S. (produced by Impossible Films, Marta Esteban PC and Televisió de Catalunya), Petit Indi / Little Indian, directed by Marc Recha (produced by Parallamps Companyia Cinematogràfica, Televisió de Catalunya, ARTE France Cinema and Noodles Production), Isabel Coixet's Map of the Sounds of Tokyo (produced by Mediapro, Televisió de Catalunya and Versatil Cinema) and Tres dies amb la família / Three Days with the Family, by Mar Coll (produced by Escándalo Films), which has been chosen to close the schedule and will be featuring the participation of the director. Moreover, Isaki Lacuesta's film, Los condenados / The Damned (produced by Benecé Produccions and Televisió de Catalunya), has been selected to take part in the festival's official programme ("Nueva Ola"). This feature film will be the star of an event dedicated to human rights and the recovery of the collective memory, and its participation in the festival will be supported by the Ramon Llull Institute.

Alongside the festival, the Cinema Farnese will be offering screenings of ten Catalan films that are currently seeking distribution in Italy: El Gebre / The Frost, by Ferran Audí (Alta Realitat, Apuntolapospo, Televisió de Catalunya and Frost Media Film AS), A la deriva / Adrift, by Ventura Pons (Els Films de la Rambla and Televisió de Catalunya), Trash, by Carles Torras (Just Films, Escándalo Films and Televisió de Catalunya), Cosas Insignificantes / Insignificant Things, by Andrea Martínez (Media Films, Manga Films and Tequila Gang), Ingrid, by Eduard Cortés (Benecé Produccions and Televisió de Catalunya), Cendres del cel / Ashes from the Sky, by José Antonio Quirós (Bausan Films and El Nacedón Films), Ens veiem demà / See You Tomorrow, by Xavi Berraondo (PCM and Televisió de Catalunya), L'estació de l'oblit / Station of the Forgotten, by Christian Molina and Sandra Serna (Canónigo Films and Televisió de Catalunya), Estigmes / Stigmata, by Adán Aliaga (Nadir Films, Ignacio Benedeti Cinema and Jaibo Films) and Quatre estacions / Four Seasons, by Marcel Barrena (Sagrera Audiovisual, Televisió de Catalunya and Somnia Ars).
