Between 8 and 12 June, the city of Sheffield, England was once again the backdrop for the Sheffield Doc/Fest, an important date for the documentary sector, which this year included the participation of ten Catalan companies. This was a first experience for most of those enterprises, which have found Sheffield to be a very useful bridge for new means of financing. Moreover, the market has developed mechanisms that enable the producers to identify who is who, the specific priorities of each broadcaster when it comes to project presentations, and to detect sources of funding outside of the purely institutional channels.
The Sheffield Doc/Fest brings together a festival, a market, pitching sessions for new projects and a complete schedule of activities for the industry, with discussion panels, master classes and special screenings. More than 2000 people have taken part in this multiplatform event, which has proven to be very useful for both the promotion of a new productions and the location of potential co-producers. Without a doubt, it was Sheffield's multi-faceted nature that convinced the nine Catalan companies to take part in the market.
