Locarno, a showcase for Catalan cinema

The successful screening of Marc Recha's Petit indi, which premiered at Locarno's star venue, the Piazza Grande, served as the header for a considerable list of Catalan films that took part in the festival. Given the strategic nature of this event for the Catalan industry, as many as seven different companies travelled to the Swiss city, to represent the films selected by the festival and to take part in its Industry Office.
At this showcase, representatives of Catalan Films & TV made contact with a number of French buyers. The idea was to offer screenings of recent Catalan productions in Paris at the end of this year. Additionally, talks have continued with the institution Cinema do Brasil to set up a common schedule for meetings and thus stimulate audiovisual production between the two countries. We must recall that Brazil and Italy are the two chosen focus regions for 2010, and thus far two Catalan-Brazilian projects are now underway. One, which is still awaiting funding, is envisaged to be co-produced by Eddie Saeta and Sara Silveira; and the other, Lope, will be directed by Andrucha Waddington and produced by Ikiru Films, Conspiraçao Filmes, Toro Filmes and Antena 3 Films.
