The upcoming 59th celebration of the Berlin International Film Festival, which will be held between 5th and 15th February, is anticipating the prominent participation of the Catalan audiovisual industry.

The official selection includes one Catalan title in the Competition Section, La teta asustada / The Milk of Sorrow, directed by Claudia Llosa (Oberon Cinematogràfica, Wanda Visión and Vela Producciones); while Manoel de Oliveira's latest film, Excentricidades de una chica rubia / Eccentricities of a Blond Hair Girl (Eddie Saeta, Films do Tejo and Les Films de l'Après-Midi) will be featured in the Berlinale Special Section, the Panorama Section has selected Ander, directed by Roberto Castón (Ilusión Óptica and Euskal Irrati Telebisa), and Dieta Mediterránea / Mediterranean Food, by Joaquim Oristrell (Messidor Films) will be taking part in the parallel Culinary Cinema Section.

Moreover, the European Film Market (EFM) Market Screenings will be projecting sixteen Catalan films (including those selected in the official sections), which together form a representative commercial showcase of Catalonia's most recent audiovisual production. These films include: Un poco de chocolate / A Bit of Chocolate, by Aitzol Aramaio (Tusitala PC and El Mundo Ficción); La casa de mi padre / Black Listed, by Gorka Merchán (Media Films and Montfort Producciones); Camino, by Javier Fesser (Mediapro and Películas Pendelton); Carlitos y el campo de sueños / Carlitos and the Chance of a Lifetime (Versàtil Cinema and Antena 3 Films); Cosas insignificantes / Insignificant Things, by Andrea Martínez (Manga Films, Media Films and Tequila Gang); Sexykiller, by Miguel Martí (Mediapro, Warner Bros Pictures International Spain and Antena 3 Films); Forasters / Strangers, by Ventura Pons (Els Films de la Rambla); La Kasona / The Big Old House, by Pau Martínez (Just Films, Galavis Films, Kincine Post and Producciones Cibeles); El Ratoncito Pérez 2 / The Hairy Tooth Fairy 2, by Andrés Schaer (Castelao Productions); El juego del ahorcado / The Hanged Man, by Manuel Gómez Pereira (Ovideo TV, El Amigo de Lenon and Subótica Entertainment) and La escarcha / The Frost, by Ferran Audí (Alta Realitat and Apuntolapospo, in association with Frost Media Films). Most of the representatives of these productions will be available at the Catalan Films & TV stand at the EFM, Martin Gropius Bau 22 (see note below), which will be accommodating some thirty other Catalan companies.

Running parallel to the festival is the Berlinale Co-Production Market, a meeting place for potential co-producers and investors for projects in development. This year's event features a selection of twenty-two projects (and ten times as many registered projects), including the Catalan production, Snowhite by Arcadia Motion Pictures, which will be directed by Pablo Berger. Eight Catalan firms will also be taking part in the different scheduled events. For its part, Catalan Films & TV will be participating in the Country Table discussion "Coproducing with...", along with the representatives of the Media Programme, and will be offering a presentation on 8 February, at 3:00 pm.
